Men’s Soccer Picks up Road Win at La Roche

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Geneva College men's soccer team made its first road trip of the season when it traveled down to La Roche College on Saturday afternoon, and the trip proved to be a successful one as the Golden Tornadoes won, 3-1.  Geneva evened its record at 3-3 with the win, while La Roche fell to 2-5.

Geneva got on the board early in the eighth minute when junior Kevin Pasho (Smithville, Ohio/Central Christian) headed in a deflected save from his own initial shot.  However, La Roche answered back 20 minutes later when the Red Hawks scored off a free kick that found its way into the corner of the goal.

The Golden Tornadoes retook the lead in the 36th minute when sophomore Alex Yoder's (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) corner kick snuck inside the near post as senior Jake Broadwick (McKees Rock, Pa./Robinson Township Christian) provided interference.  That allowed Geneva to take a 2-1 lead into the halftime break.

Geneva caught a break in the 63rd minute when junior Zach O'Connor's (Darlington, Pa./Blackhawk) cross through the box was deflected into La Roche's net by a Redhawk defender for an own goal, increasing Geneva's lead to 3-1.  The score held from there, as Geneva closed out the road win.

"It is always good to win a game on the road," said Head Coach Gary Dunda.  "It was not the prettiest brand of soccer today, but we banded together and battled tour way to a victory."

Geneva dominated most of the game, finishing with a 19-6 edge is shots, including an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal.  Pasho led the team with four shots.  Junior Nate Burkhart (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) made two saves to pick up the win.

Geneva returns home to host Mount Union on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
