Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men’s Tennis Earns First Victory of Season

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team earned its first victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Pitt-Bradford, 9-0, at Westminster.  Geneva was originally scheduled to play Westminster earlier in the day as well, but that match was cancelled due to rain.  The Golden Tornadoes are now 1-1 on the season, while Pitt-Bradford fell to 0-2.

Geneva made quick work of the Panthers on Saturday.  The Golden Tornadoes swept the doubles portion to start the match.  Juniors Alex Beck (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) and Nate Heidengren (Beaver Falls, Pa./Aliquippa) won in #1 doubles, 8-4.  Then junior Drake Greenstein (Austin, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) and freshman Jacques Guillembet (Ft. Myers, Fla./South Ft. Myers) won easily, 8-0, in #2 doubles, while senior Alex Greissinger (Erie, Pa./Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy) and sophomore Josiah Shaver (Norwin, N.Y./Norwin) also swept their opponent, 8-0.

The Golden Tornadoes made quick work of the singles matches as well.  Beck, Heidengren, Greenstein, Greissinger, Guillembet and senior Jesse Claudio (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) all picked up wins, as Geneva ended up with a 9-0 sweep over Pitt-Bradford.

"This was a solid win for us," said Head Coach Mandee Craft.  "It's always fun to come away with a 9-0 victory.  Our doubles teams are working well together, which is great to see early in the season."

Geneva closes the fall portion of its schedule with a home match against Waynesburg on Monday, September 23, beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Geneva will have a mixed intra-squad scrimmage with the women's team on homecoming.
