BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team finished up the fall portion of its competition on Monday night when it welcomed Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Waynesburg for a non-conference match. Despite rain that moved the match to Brady's Run Indoor Courts, the Golden Tornadoes swept Waynesburg, 9-0. Geneva improved its record to 2-1, while Waynesburg fell to 1-1.
Geneva got off to a great start during the doubles portion of the match. Juniors
Alex Beck (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) and
Nate Heidengren (Aliquippa, Pa./Beaver County Christian) won in #1 doubles, junior
Drake Greenstein (Austin, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) and freshman
Jacques Guillembet (Fort Myers, Fla./South Fort Myers) won in #2 doubles, and senior
Alex Greissinger (Erie, Pa./Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy) and sophomore
Josiah Shaver (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) won in #3 doubles.
Geneva continued its impressive play in singles action, with Heidengren, Greenstein, Greissinger, Guillembet, Shaver and senior
Jesse Claudio (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) sweeping through singles action. Greenstein in particular had to battle in his #2 singles match, winning in three sets.
"This was a strong win for us," said Head Coach
Mandee Craft. "Waynesburg beat us twice last year, but we played very solid tennis today and came away with the victory."
The men's and women's tennis team will hold a mixed intrasquad doubles tournament this Saturday on Homecoming, starting at 11:00 a.m. on Jannuzi Courts.
