Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Grove City Shows No Mercy in Matchup Against Geneva Women

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Grove City women's basketball team ran all over Geneva on the Wolverines' home court on Wednesday night.  Grove City used their high-paced offense and pressure defense to score early, often, and late, and the Wolverines overwhelmed Geneva, 100-39.  Grove City improved to 12-1, 4-1 in the PAC, while Geneva fell to 1-10, 0-4 in the PAC.

Grove City came in sporting its best record in record in 40 years, while Geneva continues to work through some painful struggles in Head Coach Michael Grinder's first year overseeing the program as he tries to return the Golden Tornadoes to respectability.  With that as the backdrop, the game got out of hand early.

Grove City used its full-court pressure defense to score the first 13 points of the game, with Geneva struggling to get the ball over half court during the opening stretch.  The Golden Tornadoes were able to answer with seven straight points, with junior Lauren Tipton (Glenside, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian) scoring five points in the run.  However, late in the first quarter, Tipton picked up her second foul, and things spiraled out of control from there.

Over the final 15 minutes of the first half, Grove City outscored Geneva 36-12.  The Golden Tornadoes committed 26 turnovers in the half against Grove City's tough full court press, and the Wolverines took a 49-19 lead into the halftime break.

Grove City didn't let up in the second half.  The Wolverines continued its pressure defense and high-paced offense for most of the second half, showing no mercy on its way to an emphatic 100-39 victory, which included seven points in the final minute to get Grove City to the triple digit mark.

Tipton led Geneva with 14 points and nine rebounds.  No one else reached double figures.  The Golden Tornadoes committed 36 turnovers in the game while shooting just 27% from the floor, including a 4-of-26 (15%) from long range.

Geneva returns home for a matchup on Saturday against Westminster at 1:00 p.m.
