San Nicolas and Tipton Receive Weekly Awards

GREENVILLE, Pa. – On Monday two Geneva College basketball players received weekly awards from the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).  Junior Mia San Nicolas (Sinajana, Guam/Academy of Our Lady of Guam) was named the PAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, while freshman Trevor Tipton (Glenside, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian) was named the PAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week.

San Nicolas was huge for the Geneva women's team on Saturday in its home opener as the Golden Tornadoes came back from a fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Chatham 84-75.  It was Chatham's first PAC loss of the season.  San Nicolas scored a career-high 18 points, with 14 of those points coming in the crucial fourth quarter.  She shot 7-of-12 from the floor and a perfect 4-of-4 from the foul line.  She also pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds and contributed three blocks on the defensive end.

Tipton was one of the lone bright spots for the men's team in its loss at Carnegie Mellon on Monday evening, the last game for the men before the Christmas break.  Tipton was moved into the starting lineup for the first time this season, and he responded with a career-high 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor, including an impressive 4-of-6 effort from three-point range.  He also pulled down three boards.  Tipton has now made 14 three-pointers on the season, second on the team.  This is the second time this year he has been named the PAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week.

Both the men and women will participate in holiday tournaments over the break.  The men play in the Mount Union Holiday Classic where they will face Mount Union at 7:00 p.m. on December 29, followed by a game with Wilmington on December 30 at 1:00 p.m.  The women will play in the Bluffton Holiday Classic where they will face Bluffton on December 29 at 5:00 p.m., followed by a game against Ohio Northern on December 30 at 12:00 p.m.
