Men’s Tennis Drops Season-Opening Match to Saint Vincent

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team saw its season get underway on Saturday afternoon, with the Golden Tornadoes playing host to Saint Vincent College.  Unfortunately, the Bearcats emerged with a 6-3 win to move their record to 1-0 on the season, 1-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).  Geneva fell to 0-1, 0-1 in the PAC.

Geneva picked up just one win the doubles portion of the match, with graduate student Alex Greissinger (Erie, Pa./Northwest PA Collegiate Academy) and sophomore Jacques Guillembet (Ft. Myers, Fla./South Ft. Myers) combing for an 8-5 win in #2 doubles.

In singles action, senior Nate Heidengren picked up a big win in #1 singles, winning the tiebreaker to hold on for a 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 win.  Unfortunately, the only other Golden Tornado to earn a win in singles with Greissinger, who easily won his match in #3 singles 6-0, 6-2.

"Our guys fought hard today, but overall Saint Vincent was just a little more consistent," said Head Coach Mandee Craft.  "Alex had a great match for us winning both of his matches, and Nate had a hard-fought win as well, but unfortunately it wasn't quite enough."

Geneva heads to Westminster next with a match against the Titans on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
