BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team wrapped up its regular season on Monday night with a convincing win over Waynesburg, 8-1. Geneva improved to 3-5 overall, 3-3 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while Waynesburg dropped to 0-5, 0-5 in the PAC.
The doubles portion of the match proved relatively tight, but Geneva pulled out all three matches to give the Golden Tornadoes a big lead heading into the singles portion. Senior
Drake Greenstein (Austin, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) and sophomore
Jacques Guillembet (Ft. Myers, Fla./South Ft. Myers) won in #1 doubles 8-5. Graduate student
Alex Greissinger (Erie, Pa./Northwest PA Collegiate Academy) partnered with junior
Josiah Shaver (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) in #2 doubles, and the duo pulled out an 8-7 victory by winning the tiebreaker 7-4. In #3 doubles, junior
Kameron Donaldson (Claysville, Pa./McGuffey) and freshman
Jadon Hooke (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) won 8-6.
In singles action, Greenstein won his match in #1 singles 6-0, 6-1. Guillembet won in #2 singles 6-2, 6-2, and Shaver won in #4 singles 6-1, 6-2. Hooke won his match in #5 singles 6-0, 6-3, and sophomore
Jacob Zangas (Fenelton, Pa./Butler) earned a win in #6 singles 6-3, 6-1.
"Much like our women's team last week, this proved to be a fantastic win for the men as we head into the PAC playoffs next week," said Head Coach
Mandee Craft. "Our doubles teams really had to battle today, and we'll be stronger for it."
The playoffs are scheduled to begin next Tuesday, April 27. Geneva is currently tied with Westminster in fourth place in the PAC, but the Golden Tornadoes hold the tiebreaker since they won the conference match earlier this season against the Titans. The PAC will announced the playoff seedings later this week.
