BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – It's probably safe to say that the Geneva College and Westminster College men's tennis teams are fairly evenly matched. Two weeks after the Golden Tornadoes won at Westminster 5-4, the Titans returned the favor on Friday night by the same score. This match did not count in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) standings, though, unlike the first matchup. Westminster improved to 3-2, 2-2 in the PAC, while Geneva fell to 2-4, 2-3 in the PAC.
The doubles action got off to a good start, with the Golden Tornadoes winning two of the three matches. Seniors
Nate Heidengren (Aliquippa, Pa./Beaver County Christian) and
Drake Greenstein (Austin, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) won in #1 doubles 8-2, while juniors
Josiah Shaver (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) and
Kameron Donaldson (Claysville, Pa./McGuffey) won in #3 doubles 8-4.
In singles action, Heidengren came through with another win in #1 singles, defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-4. Greenstein also added a win in #2 singles 7-5, 6-0. Unfortunately, those were the only wins Geneva could obtain the rest of the match. Shaver and graduate student
Alex Greissinger (Erie, Pa./Northwest PA Collegiate Academy) both lost their singles matches in third-set tiebreakers.
Geneva returns to action this Wednesday with a 4:30 p.m. match at Saint Vincent. This match will not count in the PAC standings either.
