NEW ORLEANS, La. – Recent graduate
Stephen Nelson (Orono, Maine/Orono) and rising senior
Olivia Younger (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) were both honored by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their outstanding work in the classroom and on the track, with both student-athletes being named to the USTFCCCA NCAA Division III All-Academic Team.
To qualify for the All-Academic Team, individuals must have at least a 3.3 GPA while finishing as either one of the top 50 finishers in their event or competing on a relay team that finished among the top 35 times in NCAA Division III.
Nelson was recently named Geneva's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Male Scholar Athlete of the Year after finishing his degree with a 3.99 GPA. He finished the season with the 41
st best time in the 400m hurdles with at time of 55.00 seconds, while also winning the event at the Outdoor PAC Championships.
Younger also excelled in the hurdles, finishing with the 29
th best time in NCAA Division III in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.65 seconds. She also finished with the 47
th best time in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.44. She has won both the indoor 60m hurdles and outdoor 100m hurdles multiple times at the PAC Championships. She also has been named to the PAC Honor Roll all three seasons at Geneva.
In addition, both the men's and women's track and field teams were named as USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams, which requires teams have at least a 3.1 GPA. The men's team finished with a 3.11 team GPA, while the women finished with an impressive 3.5 team GPA.
