HIRAM, Ohio – Not much went well for the Geneva College women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon, with the Hiram Terriers controlling the match from start to finish in a 6-0 shutout of the Golden Tornadoes. Hiram improved to 1-1, while Geneva dropped to 0-2.
Hiram got on the board in the 21
st minute off the foot of Caitlin Tucker, taking an early lead. Five minutes later, Hiram's Kaitlyn Harris doubled the Terriers' lead with a goal, which would be a sign of things to come for the Golden Tornadoes. That's where things stayed heading into halftime.
Things unraveled for Geneva in the second half. Ten minutes into the half, Harris scored two quick goals just two minutes apart, giving her a hat trick and putting Hiram in full control. The Terriers scored twice more in the game to finish off the 6-0 shutout. Geneva's best chance to score came in the closing seconds when junior
Olivia Mincone's (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) shot went just over the bar.
Hiram ended the game with 21 shots, 13 on goal, compared to nine shots for Geneva, five on goal. Mincone led the team with five shots, including three on goal.
Up next for Geneva is a chance to play at home, with the Golden Tornadoes hosting Mount Aloysius for their home opener on Wednesday, September 8, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
