GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Geneva College women's tennis team was the first Geneva squad to play a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup, kicking off their season with a road match at Thiel on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, not much went well, as Thiel won easily, 8-1.
Thiel took control of the match by sweeping the doubles matches, putting Geneva in a big hole. The Golden Tornadoes could never recover. Their only point came in #5 singles where freshman
Delaney Winterhalter (Carnegie, Pa./South Fayette) defeated her opponent 7-5, 6-3. Winterhalter and sophomore
Ella Miller (Freedom, Pa./Ambridge) did put up a good fight in #3 doubles, eventually falling 8-7, losing the tiebreaker 7-5.
"This wasn't the start to the season we were hoping for," said Head Coach
Mandee Craft. "Thiel played very well, though, so all credit to them. We found some things we need to work on, and we will be ready for next week."
Geneva will have its home-opener next Thursday when the Golden Tornadoes host Waynesburg at 6:00 p.m. on Blackhawk Courts.
