Football Struggles on Senior Day

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College football team was its own worst enemy on Saturday in its season-finale against Westminster on a cold and rainy Senior Day.  The Golden Tornadoes committed eight turnovers, and the Titans ran away with the game 49-0.  Geneva's season ends with a 3-7 overall record, while Westminster improved to 7-3.

Westminster came in with one of the top defenses in the conference, and the Titans never let Geneva get into a rhythm.  The Golden Tornadoes committed five first-half turnovers, two interceptions and three fumbles, setting Westminster up with short fields and enabling the Titans to take a 35-0 lead into the break.

Things never got any better in the second half, as Geneva committed three more turnovers, which Westminster turned into 14 more points, wrapping the up scoring in the 49-0 Titan victory.

Senior Gino Mavero led the offense with 55 yards rushing, while junior Jackson Hall added 46 yards on the ground.  Geneva managed just one completion for nine yards through the air.  As a team Geneva finished with 146 yards of offense.  Westminster finished with 369 yards.

Defensively, senior Nicolas Ottaviani and sophomore Gabe Trexler led the team with 12 tackles apiece, while sophomore Ray Richard finished with 10 tackles.
