Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men’s Tennis Opens Spring Season with Sweep of Mount Aloysius

EBENSBURG, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team opened its spring season on Saturday afternoon with an indoor match against Mount Aloysius at the Ebensburg Tennis Center, and the Golden Tornadoes cruised to a sweep over the Mounties, 9-0.  The victory was the first of the season for the men, who dropped their three matches in the fall.

Geneva easily won all three doubles matches to start the day.  Senior Nate Heidengren (Aliquippa, Pa./Beaver County Christian) and junior Jacques Guillembet (Ft. Myers, Fla./South Ft. Myers) won in #1 doubles, 8-2.  In the second flight, graduate student Alex Greissinger (Erie, Pa./Northwest PA Collegiate Academy) and senior Josiah Shaver (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) won 8-4, and in #3 doubles senior Kameron Donaldson (Claysville, Pa./McGuffey) and sophomore Jadon Hooke (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) won easily 8-0.

The Golden Tornadoes continued that success in singles action, though Heidengren had to go to a third-set tiebreaker to win his match 6-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-1).  In #2 singles, Shaver was leading 2-1 in the first set when his opponent had to retire.   Guillembet won his match in #3 singles 6-1, 6-0, and in #4 singles Greissinger won 6-3, 6-2.  Hooke swept his opponent in #5 singles 6-0, 6-0, while freshman David Clark (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) won in #6 singles 6-2, 6-3.

"Our fall matches didn't go as we hoped, so it feels great to get back into the win column," said Head Coach Mandee Craft.  "We began the day with solid play during doubles, which always helps, and we carried it on from there."

Geneva's next match doesn't come for almost a month, with the Golden Tornadoes scheduled to open Presidents' Athletic Conference play at Grove City on Tuesday, March 22.
