Track and Field Wraps up Indoor Regular Season at Mount Union while Data Breaks School Record at Akron

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Most of the Geneva College men's and women's track teams competed in the Jim Wuske Invitational on Saturday afternoon, hosted by Mount Union, in their last meet before championships start next week.  The lone exception was senior Dom Data (New Castle, Pa./Shenango), with Data participating in the Akron Invitational where he broke another school record.  Geneva had a lighter list of participants at Mount Union as the Golden Tornadoes prepare for both the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Championships and the Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships.

Data headed to Akron University to compete in a meet consisting mostly of Division I athletes, increasing his competition level, and he did not disappoint.  He won the Gold Division of the 200-meter race, breaking his own school record with a time of 21.75 seconds.  He also made the finals and placed sixth in the Gold Division of the 60-meter race, finishing in a time of 6.99 seconds.

At Mount Union, sophomore Noah Foust (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) highlighted the day with a second-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 13.51 meters.  He also placed ninth in the weight throw with an effort of 13.34 meters.

For the women, both senior Olivia Younger (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) and junior Naomi Swartzbaugh (Spartansburg, Pa./Spartansburg) qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, with Younger running the second fastest time in the preliminaries at 9.49 seconds.

Sophomore Jaci Mennetti (Coolspring, Pa./Dubois Area Catholic) finished third in the 3000-meter race with a time of 11:36.17.  Also, senior Katryn Gatchell (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) placed sixth in the 400-meter race with a time of 1:05.12.

Next week those that have qualified will head to the NCCAA Indoor Championships, hosted by Cedarville University, on Friday and Saturday.  The PAC Indoor Championships will take place at Youngstown State on Thursday, February 24.
