Men's Tennis Drops Match at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. – The schedule makers didn't do the Geneva College men's tennis team any favors.  A week after opening Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on the road at PAC preseason favorite Grove City, the Golden Tornadoes traveled to Saint Vincent on Friday evening to face a Bearcat squad predicted to finish just behind Grove City in the standings, and the talented Bearcats prevailed 7-2.  Geneva's record is now 1-5 overall, 0-2 in the PAC, while Saint Vincent improved to 7-3, 2-0 in the PAC.

Graduate student Nate Heidengren (Aliquippa, Pa./Beaver County Christian) and junior Jacques Guillembet (Ft. Myers, Fla./South Ft. Myers) played well in #1 doubles, capturing an 8-6 victory to open the match.

In singles play, Heidengren also came through in #1 singles, winning his match 7-5, 7-5, earning Geneva's second point.

"Saint Vincent is a strong team all the way down," said Head Coach Mandee Craft.  "We made some strides from last week's match at Grove City, but we still have some areas we need to work on.  I'm looking forward to getting right back out there tomorrow to start that work."

The team does have a short turnaround as Geneva takes on Penn State Altoona at home on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 p.m., at Blackhawk Courts.
