BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team took a break from conference play on Saturday afternoon to take on Penn State Altoona, and the Golden Tornadoes got back into the win column with a 7-2 victory. Geneva's record is now 2-5.
Geneva swept the doubles portion of the match to start things off. Graduate student Nate Heidengren (Aliquippa, Pa./Beaver County Christian) and junior Jacques Guillembet (Ft. Myers, Fla./South Ft. Myers) earned an 8-4 win in #1 doubles. Senior Josiah Shaver (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) and Amos Luptak (Sewickely, Pa./Quaker Valley) won in #2 doubles 8-6, while senior Kameron Donaldson (Claysville, Pa./McGuffey) and sophomore Jadon Hooke (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) won in #3 doubles 8-3.
In singles action, Heidengren won in #1 singles 7-6, 6-0. Guillembet won in #2 singles 6-3, 6-2. Luptak won in #4 singles 6-3, 6-4, while Hooke won in #5 singles 6-1, 6-0.
"It feels good to get a win after a couple of tough losses recently," said Head Coach Mandee Craft. "Hopefully we can ride this momentum now."
Geneva's challenging start to conference play continues on Wednesday when the Golden Tornadoes travel to Franciscan for a 3:00 p.m. match. Geneva started the conference season with road matches at the two top preseason teams in Grove City and Saint Vincent, and Franciscan was picked third in the preseason poll.
