Franciscan Prevails over Men’s Tennis

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Geneva College men's tennis team dropped a match at Franciscan by a score of 8-1 in a match that was closer than the score might indicate.  Geneva is now 3-6, 0-3 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.

In doubles action, Geneva earned a point in the second flight when seniors Josiah Shaver (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) and Amos Luptak (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) pulled out a tiebreaker win 8-7 (7-3).

Geneva had multiple close matches in singles action, but the Golden Tornadoes couldn't pull out another victory to earn a point.  Shaver and graduate student Nate Heidengren (Aliquippa, Pa./Beaver County Christian) each lost their singles matches in a third-set tiebreaker, while Luptak lost a second-set tiebreaker in his match.

"We had some real chances today," said Head Coach Mandee Craft, "but Franciscan just kept up coming up the answers."

The men will be back in action next Tuesday when the Golden Tornadoes host Westminster for a match at Brady's Run Indoor Courts beginning at 2:30 p.m.
