Game Recap: Baseball |

Offense Silent in Doubleheader with Waynesburg

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Geneva College baseball team couldn't generate much offense in its doubleheader against Waynesburg on Wednesday afternoon, played at Westminster College because of recent rains that made Geneva's field too wet to play on, and the Golden Tornadoes dropped both games by scores of 5-1 and 6-0.  Geneva's record is now 8-21 overall, 4-11 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).

Freshman Zach Lemansky (South Park, Pa./South Park) got the start for Geneva in game one, and Waynesburg scored a run in the second and added three more in the third to take a 4-0 lead.

Geneva got its only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI-groundout from senior Dillon Bickerton (Salem, Ohio/Salem).  Waynesburg added a run in the fifth to close out the scoring, 5-1.  Sophomore Giovani Noa (Homestead, Fla./South Dade) did give the Golden Tornadoes four strong innings of relief, giving up just one hit and one run while striking out seven.

The Golden Tornadoes actually outhit Waynesburg 8-4 in the game, but the Yellow Jackets bunched their hits together better, as well as receiving five walks from Geneva pitching.  Senior Alex Fee (New Castle, Pa./New Castle), sophomore David Toruno (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley) and freshman Zack Sackett (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) each had two hits.

Freshman Alex Tatusko (Independence, K.Y./Bishop Brossart) took the mound in game two, and Waynesburg got on the board early with two runs in the first.

The Golden Tornadoes again struggled to generate much offense in game two, managing just one hit through the first five innings.

The Yellow Jackets added a run in the third, two in the sixth and one more in the eighth to close out the scoring.  Geneva's best chance to score came in the seventh when the Golden Tornadoes got runners to second and third with one out, but a strikeout and a lineout ended the threat.

Toruno and Sackett each had two hits for Geneva, with the Golden Tornadoes finishing with six hits total in game two.

Geneva will be back in action on Friday when the Golden Tornadoes host Westminster at 3:30 p.m.
