NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – A day after knocking off Westminster at home in the series-opener on Friday, the Geneva College baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against the Titans on Saturday afternoon, 5-1 and 14-3. Geneva's record is now 9-23, 5-14 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while Westminster improved to 19-10, 14-6 in the PAC.
Freshman Jeff Hawkins (Severn, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) got the start in game one, and the Titans got their offense going early. Westminster scored a run in the first, two more in the second and one in the third to take a 4-0 lead.
Geneva got in the board in the fifth when senior Adrian Tapia (Homestead, Fla./Keys Gate Charter) opened the inning with a single and later came around to score, but the Golden Tornadoes couldn't get any closer and dropped a 5-1 decision.
The Golden Tornadoes took an early in game two, scoring one run in the first when sophomore David Toruno (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley) led off with a single and later came around to score, and then another run in the second when Tapia singled and came around to score.
However, Westminster got its offense going in the bottom of the second inning against sophomore starter Joshua Kearns (Akron, Ohio/Woodridge), with the Titans scoring five times to give Westminster the lead.
The Titans broke the game open later in the game. Westminster scored two runs in the fifth, four in the sixth and three more in the seventh before finishing off the second game, 14-3.
Tapia led the offense with two of Geneva's five hits in game two.
Geneva will be back in action on Monday with a home game against Saint Vincent beginning at 4:00 p.m.
