CHIPPEWA, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team celebrated Senior Day, while also wrapping up the regular season, with a convincing 8-1 win over W&J on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Blackhawk Courts, the third straight victory for the Golden Tornadoes. Geneva improved its record to 6-7 overall, 3-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play, with the PAC playoffs set to begin next week.
Geneva put itself in great position by sweeping the doubles matches. Graduate student Nate Heidengren (Aliquippa, Pa./Beaver County Christian) and junior Jacques Guillembet (Ft. Myers, Fla./South Ft. Myers) won in #1 doubles 8-5. Senior Amos Luptak (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and sophomore Jadon Hooke (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) won in #2 doubles 8-4, while seniors Josiah Shaver (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) and Kameron Donaldson (Claysville, Pa./McGuffey) pulled out an 8-7 victory in #3 doubles, winning the tiebreaker 7-5.
The men were even more impressive in singles play. Heidengren and Guillembet each swept their opponents 6-0, 6-0 in #1 and #2 singles, respectively. Shaver won 6-2, 6-2 in #3 singles, while Luptak won 6-0, 6-1 in #4 singles. Hooke finished out the wins for Geneva with a 6-2, 6-0 victory in #5 singles.
The official playoff announcements have yet to be finalized, but the Golden Tornadoes look like they will most likely be the #5 seed heading into the PAC playoffs, and their opponent will be the #4 seed on Tuesday in the PAC Quarterfinals, which appears to most likely be Westminster. The conference will release the official seedings tomorrow night for the playoffs.
