Softball’s Season Ends in PAC Playoffs

LATROBE, Pa. – In a season of ups and downs for the Geneva College softball team, the Golden Tornadoes saw their season come to an end on Wednesday afternoon in the opening round of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) playoffs, falling to Grove City 5-0.  Geneva finishes the season with a 19-16 overall record.

Grove City jumped on junior starter Haley Smith (Joshua Tree, Calif./Yucca Valley) early, scoring twice in both the first and second innings to give the Wolverines an early 4-0 edge.

Grove City starter Kaitlyn Constantino kept the Geneva offense quiet all day.  Sophomore Julia Hart (Prospect, Pa./Slippery) had a two-out single in the first, but that was the only Golden Tornado base runner through the first five innings.

Geneva's offense showed brief life in the sixth, loading the bases with just one out.  However, a pop-up and a fly-out ended the threat without the Golden Tornadoes getting on the board, and that proved to be Geneva's only chance to get back into the game.

Grove City added a run in the sixth, and Geneva went in order in the top of the seventh to finish out the game.

Geneva managed just two hits in the contest and had just four baserunners.

The loss ends the season for the Golden Tornadoes, who entered the season with high hopes after winning the PAC Championship last year.  Geneva will have several key returners coming back next season as it looks to make another run at a PAC Championship.
