GREENVILLE, Pa. – Three Golden Tornadoes received honors on Monday when the Presidents' Athletics Conference (PAC) released its weekly awards. Senior Gabriel Kemp (Normalville, Pa./Connellsville) was named the PAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, sophomore Carmen Medvit (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) was selected as the PAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, and sophomore Megan Veon (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) was named the PAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week.
Kemp helped lead the men's soccer team to a 1-0-1 record with two shutouts in his two starts last week. He made seven saves against previously unbeaten Baldwin Wallace in a scoreless draw on Thursday, and then he made one big save against Hiram on Saturday in a 1-0 win over Hiram.
Medvit won the Saint Vincent Invitational on Friday afternoon, finishing the 6K race in a time of 23:22. The sophomore transfer from Robert Morris defeated 105 other women at the invitational, including many of the top runners in the conference, putting notice to the rest of the conference that she'll be in contention to win a PAC Championship later this year.
Veon put together one of the most successful weeks for a women's volleyball player in the last couple of seasons. She began the week with a career-high 24 kills in a five-set victory at Penn State Altoona, which was the most kills in a match by a Golden Tornado since Erica Hughes has 29 in 2017. She finished the week with 65 kills (3.42 k/s) on a very impressive .418 hitting percentage. She also added 15 blocks during Geneva's four matches.
