Women’s Soccer Finishes Non-Conference at Pitt-Greensburg

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Geneva College women's soccer team wrapped up the non-conference portion of its schedule on Monday afternoon with a road game at Pitt-Greensburg, and the Bobcats proved too tough for the Golden Tornadoes while defeating Geneva 7-1.  Geneva's record is now 2-4-2, while Pitt-Greensburg improved to 5-2.

The non-conference schedule proved to be a challenging one for second-year Head Coach Kelsey Morrison, who had to navigate the loss of several key players due to injuries, some of which have not returned yet.

Monday's contest started poorly against a Bobcat squad that was coming off impressive victories over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponents Waynesburg and Allegheny.  Pitt-Greensburg jumped on Geneva early, scoring in the 10th, 13th and 17th minutes to put the Golden Tornadoes in a big hole.  Geneva began to settle down after the early rough patch, but it wasn't enough to prevent Pitt-Greensburg from adding a fourth goal in the 33rd minute to send the Bobcats into the half with a 4-0 lead.

The Bobcats added to their lead three minutes into the second half.  Sophomore Julia Robertson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) got Geneva on the board in the 73rd minute when her shot from the corner of the box went up and over the keeper's head and into the far upper corner.  Pitt-Greensburg added two more goals late to close out the scoring.

Pitt-Greensburg held a 30-12 edge in shots and a 16-7 advantage in shots on goal.  Sophomore Saige Musser (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) led the team with three shots on goal.

Geneva will now turn its attention towards the upcoming PAC schedule, beginning with a road game at Thiel on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
