BEREA, Ohio – Neither team could find a goal in the Geneva College men's soccer game at Baldwin Wallace on Thursday night, the first road game of the season for the Golden Tornadoes, with both defenses largely controlling the match in the scoreless draw. Geneva's record is now 1-1-2, while Baldwin Wallace stands at 2-0-1.
Geneva had a huge chance in the fifth minute when sophomore Caleb Chambers (Aston, Pa./Christian Academy) was brought down in the box, giving the Golden Tornadoes a penalty kick. However, freshman Wil Dunda's (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) attempt was saved, keeping Geneva off the board.
Baldwin Wallace's best chance in the half came eight minutes before halftime when a defensive turnover deep on Geneva's side of the field gave Baldwin Wallace a great look at goal, but senior goalkeeper Gabriel Kemp (Normalville, Pa./Connellsville) not only saved that close range shot, but he made a great reflex save after the rebound bounced right to a Yellow Jacket. Kemp's quick reflexes kept the game scoreless heading into the break.
Neither team could generate any real chances in the second half. Geneva had a couple free kicks right outside the Baldwin Wallace box, but the Golden Tornadoes couldn't capitalize. For the most part the second half was played in between the boxes, and both teams were forced to settle for a scoreless draw.
Baldwin Wallace finished the game with a 13-9 edge in shots, as well as a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. Kemp earned his first shutout of the season by making all seven saves.
Geneva will be back in action on Saturday when the Golden Tornadoes host Hiram at 7:00 p.m. on Reeves Field.
