Women Drop Game at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Geneva College women's basketball team dropped a 78-63 decision at Westminster on Tuesday evening.  The loss drops Geneva's record to 2-10 overall, 2-5 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).  Westminster improved to 9-3 overall, 5-2 in the PAC.

Westminster jumped ahead early, though the Golden Tornadoes hung with the Titans for most of the first quarter.  A layup from junior Emily Bucheit with two minutes left in the quarter pulled Geneva within 15-14, but Westminster closed the period with six straight points.

The Titans continued their momentum into the second quarter.  Geneva briefly pulled within 23-19 on a jumper from junior Mia San Nicolas, but a 10-2 run over the next four minutes gave Westminster a double-digit lead, 33-21, and the Titans eventually extended their edge to 43-27 at the break.

Westminster would stretch its lead to 57-37 with four minutes remaining in the third quarter.  Another jumper from San Nicolas at the end of the quarter pulled Geneva within 59-45.  Senior Isabella Roth knocked down a three-pointer to begin the fourth quarter to pull within 11 points, but the Golden Tornadoes would get no closer in losing 78-63.

Roth led four players in double figures with 15 points.  San Nicolas finished with 14 points, while junior Cynthia Stewart and sophomore Taylor Haring each added 12 points.  Geneva shot just 33% from the floor, including 7-of-32 (22%) from three-point range.  Westminster shot 46% from the floor and 35% from long distance.  Five players scored in double figures for the Titans.

The schedule gets even tougher for the ladies as Geneva hosts first-place W&J on Thursday for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.  The Presidents are a perfect 7-0 in the PAC.
