NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Geneva College men's soccer team used a first-half offensive outburst at Westminster on Wednesday night to stay perfect in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play, adding another shutout to their season's collection in a 3-0 win. Geneva has now won six straight games and sits at 9-4-1 overall, 6-0 in the PAC.
If Westminster had any thoughts of an upset, the Golden Tornadoes eliminated those with a big first half. Senior Carnel Kerr got Geneva on the board first in the 14th minute when he received a pass from junior Kyle Lapoure in the middle of the box, settling the ball and then hitting a shot across the goal and inside the far post.
Seven minutes later, Kerr teamed up with sophomore Wil Dunda to double the lead. Dunda dribbled towards the box, passed to Kerr, and Kerr one-touched a ball into the box that Dunda ran onto and chipped over the Westminster goalie and into the net.
Eight minutes later, in the 29th minute, it was junior Caleb Chambers and sophomore Gabe Singh that worked together to add to the score. Singh ran onto a throw-in down the line, cutting back inside and then playing a lovely pass into the box and into the run of Chambers, who easily beat the Westminster keeper to make it 3-0 Geneva heading into the halftime break.
The second half didn't see any further scoring. Geneva had a couple opportunities, but the Golden Tornado defense completely shut down the Titan attack, only allowing long range shots that junior goalkeeper Evan Shale was able to cleanly handle.
Shale made five saves to earn his PAC-leading seventh shutout. Geneva finished with an 11-9 edge in shots, but a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks, indicative of the advantage in play the Golden Tornadoes had all night.
The six straight wins are the most for the men since the Golden Tornadoes won 14 straight in 2016. Geneva will try to extend its winning streak on Saturday when the men host W&J at 7:00 p.m. The Golden Tornadoes will recognize their lone graduating senior, Antonio Fiordilino, prior to the game.
