Football Drops Season Finale at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Geneva College football team dropped its final game of the season on Saturday, falling at Westminster 35-14.  Geneva finishes the season with a 4-6 record.

The first half was a tough one for the Golden Tornadoes.  Westminster got on the board with a touchdown drive on its opening possession of the game, while the Geneva offense couldn't get much going on the ground against the Titan defense.

Geneva did have two long passing plays that created promising drives for the Golden Tornadoes, but one drive ended on a turnover on downs and the second on an interception inside the Westminster 30-yardline.  The Titans, meanwhile, added 21 points in the second quarter to take a 28-0 lead into the break.

The Golden Tornadoes got on the board late in the third quarter, courtesy of another long pass.  This one came on third-and-12 when junior quarterback Brutus Ogilvie hit senior wide receiver Hilton McClain Jr. in stride behind the Westminster defense, and McClain outran everyone for a 77-yard touchdown pass.

Each team added scores the fourth quarter, Geneva's on a 24-yard touchdown run by sophomore Logan Kent, which wrapped up the scoring.

Geneva never got its ground game going, finishing with just 82 yards rushing against the stout Westminster defense.  The Golden Tornadoes did most of their damage through the air.  Ogilvie passed for 201 yards, while McClain hauled in four passes for 123 yards.  Westminster outgained Geneva in yardage, 392-283.

Defensively, junior linebacker Gabe Trexler was all over the field, finishing with a career-best 17 tackles, including 3.0 TFLs.  Sophomore Daniel Guzevich added a career-high 11 tackles, while sophomore Luke Blasko had ten stops.
