Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women Fall at Bethany

BETHANY, W.Va. – The Geneva College women's basketball team could not sustain a good offensive start on Saturday afternoon at Bethany, falling to the Bison 93-66.  Geneva dropped to 6-17 overall, 6-12 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while Bethany improved to 9-15, 9-10 in the PAC.

Geneva opened the game with back-to-back three-pointers from sophomore Mackenzie Barricklow and junior Cynthia Stewart, but the outside shots began to dry up for the Golden Tornadoes after that.  Bethany answered with seven straight points and eventually pulled ahead 18-13 before Geneva answered.  A bucket from Barricklow, followed by three straight baskets from junior Mia San Nicolas, including a three-pointer, gave the Golden Tornadoes a 22-18 lead.  However, Bethany responded with nine straight points in taking a 27-24 lead at the first break.

Bethany extended its lead to 33-26 three minutes into the second quarter, and the Bison lead remained in that range for the rest of the quarter, with the Bison taking a 45-37 lead into the break.

Bethany took its first double-digit lead early in the third quarter, 53-41, and Geneva could never get its offense on track the rest of the game.  The Bison steadily pulled away over the final two quarters for the 93-66 victory.

San Nicolas was the only Golden Tornado to reach double figures, finishing with 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the floor.  As a team, though, Geneva shot just 27-of-78 (35%) from the floor, including 8-of-35 (23%) from long range.

Bethany won the battle of the boards, outrebounding Geneva 53-32.  The Bison, who shot 36-of-74 (49%) from the floor, had five players in double figures, led by Bella Skobel's 25 points.

Geneva wraps up the regular season next week with two home games against the top two teams in the conference.  The women face first-place W&J on Wednesday and then finish out the regular season with a home game against Saint Vincent on Saturday.
