GREENSBURG, Pa. – While the temperature outside didn't feel much like spring on Friday, the Geneva College men's tennis team still opened the spring portion of its schedule taking on Pitt-Greensburg at the Greensburg Racquet Club, and the Golden Tornadoes left town with a convincing 8-1 victory.
In doubles action, freshman Braiden Smalley made his collegiate debut, alongside senior Jacques Guillembet, and the duo won their match in #1 doubles, 8-2. Junior Jadon Hooke and freshman Daniel Ray emerged victorious in #2 doubles, 8-4, while junior Nick Heidengren and sophomore David Clark won #3 doubles, 8-1.
Geneva also had convincing victories during the singles action. Smalley won in #1 singles 6-1, 6-0, while Guillembet earned a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in #2 singles. Heidengren took #3 singles 6-1, 6-0, while Hooke won 6-1, 6-1 in #4 singles. Freshman Owen Landis finished out the scoring for Geneva with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in #5 singles.
"It's always a good confidence builder to pick up a solid win to start the spring season," said Head Coach Mandee Craft. "We now have over a month to continue working and solidifying our lineup for our PAC season."
The men will have a long break before their next match. Geneva has over a month off before opening conference play on Thursday, March 23, against Grove City.
