Women Drop Senior Day Matchup with Saint Vincent

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College women's basketball team dropped an 82-60 decision to Saint Vincent on Saturday, a day the Golden Tornadoes celebrated their lone senior, Isabella Roth, prior to the game.  Geneva fell to 6-19 overall, 6-14 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while the Bearcats continued their recent strong play, improving to 19-4, 17-3 in the PAC.

The women started well, with a bucket from junior Cynthia Stewart, a three-pointer from freshman Madi Matthews, and back-to-back baskets from sophomores Mackenzie Barricklow and Taylor Haring giving Geneva an early 9-3 lead.

Geneva could never get its outside shot on track, though, and Saint Vincent climbed its way back into the lead at the end of the first quarter, 17-15.

A three-pointer early in the second quarter from Roth gave the Golden Tornadoes the lead back, 20-19, but the lead proved to be brief.  A bucket from junior Mia San Nicolas midway through the quarter pulled Geneva level at 25-25, but the Bearcats finished the quarter on a 15-6 run to take a 40-31 lead at the break.

Saint Vincent continued its run early in the third quarter to take a 44-31 lead before Geneva put together a run to pull within 48-42 after Haring hit a jumper, followed by a three-pointer.  That was as close as the Golden Tornadoes would get, though.  The Bearcats answered with ten straight points, and Saint Vincent slowly built its lead the rest of the game and finished off the 82-60 win.

San Nicolas again led the team offensively, finishing with 17 points.  She was the only Golden Tornado to reach double figures, with Stewart and Roth each adding eight points.  Geneva struggled with its outside shooting, with the Golden Tornadoes finishing just 8-of-43 (19%) from long range.

The bigger Bearcats finished with a big advantage on the boards, 66-37, and shot 44% form the floor.  Madison Weber led a balanced attack, finishing with 16 points.

Geneva finished eighth in the final regular season PAC standings, which will set up a matchup with the top team in the conference, W&J, on Monday at 7:00 p.m. in the PAC Quarterfinals.
