Graft and Smith Receive Weekly Awards

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Two Geneva pitchers received weekly honors on Monday.  Sophomore Caleb Graft was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Baseball Rookie of the Week, while senior Haley Smith was named both the PAC and National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Graft was strong on the mound for the baseball team during its week in Myrtle Beach over Spring Break.  He won both of his starts last week against Lancaster Bible and Valley Forge.  Against Lancaster Bible, he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one run and one hit, while striking out five.  Against Valley Forge, he threw a seven-inning complete game, giving up just four hits and one earned run, striking out six.  He also batted .300 on the week with two runs and three RBIs.

Smith was dominant in her three starts last week in Florida.  She won all three starts, pitching 20 innings while giving up just one unearned run.  Smith pitched a one-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over Monmouth, striking out five.  Next, she earned a win against Penn State Behrend, pitching six innings while giving up just three hits and one unearned run, while striking out six.  Smith then wrapped up the week with a complete-game shutout against Elizabethtown in which she gave up five hits and struck out five.

Both the softball and baseball teams will begin play back up north this week on Wednesday.  The softball team plays a doubleheader at Pitt-Greensburg, while the baseball team travels to W&J for a doubleheader.
