PITTSBURGH, Pa. – It was a tough pitching day for the Geneva College baseball team in its game at La Roche on Tuesday afternoon, with the Redhawks opening a big early lead on their way to a 15-2 win over the Golden Tornadoes. Geneva is now 7-11 on the season.
Things got off to a rough start for sophomore starter Caleb Graft, who struggled to find the zone in the opening inning. The hurler issued seven walks before being relieved, and by the time Geneva got the third out of the inning, La Roche had scored nine times.
The Redhawks added three runs in the second before Geneva got on the board in the top of the third on an RBI-triple from sophomore Zack Sackett. Sackett drove in Geneva's other run in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly.
Sophomore Connor O'Brien captured two of Geneva's five hits in the game.
The Golden Tornadoes will look to rebound on Thursday with a doubleheader at Medaille, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
