ALTOONA, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team picked up a win over Penn State Altoona on Friday night, 8-1. Geneva evened its overall record to 5-5 with the victory.
The men took all three of the doubles matches to open things up. Senior
Jacques Guillembet and freshman
Braiden Smalley took #1 doubles, 8-5. Juniors
Jadon Hooke and
Nick Heidengren took #2 doubles, 8-3. Sophomore
David Clark and freshman
Owen Landis finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-5 victory in #3 doubles.
The singles matches presented some closer competition. Smalley prevailed in a third-set tiebreaker in #1 singles 3-6, 6-1, 10-7. Hooke won in #3 singles in one of the closest matches all season 6-7(2), 7-6(6), 13-11. Freshman
Daniel Ray took #4 singles 6-3, 6-2, while senior
Jalen Landis earned a 7-5, 6-2 win in #5 singles. Junior
Gavin Landis won in #6 singles 6-3, 6-0.
"Today was a really solid win for us," said Head Coach
Mandee Craft. "Getting off to a good start in doubles is always key, and we definitely did that today."
The men will return to conference action on Tuesday with a 5:30 p.m. match at Washington and Jefferson.
