Women’s Tennis Wraps up Year with Win at Penn State Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Geneva College women's tennis team wrapped up its season with an 8-1 win at Penn State Altoona on Friday evening, matching the same total the Geneva men won by against Altoona earlier in the day. The women finish the year win an 8-6 overall record.

Altoona had just five players available for the match, which meant Geneva earned automatic wins in #3 doubles and #6 singles.  The Golden Tornadoes did take both first and second doubles.  Freshman Lauren Estes and sophomore Delaney Winterhalter combined to win the first flight 8-3, while junior Ella Miller and freshman Jenna Allison prevailed in a tight match in the second flight, 8-7.

In singles action, Estes dropped a tight third-set tiebreaker in #1 singles, but the women took the other four matches.  Winterhalter won in #2 singles 6-4, 6-1, while freshman CeJaelyn Perednia won in #3 singles 6-3, 6-3.  Miller took #4 singles by the same 6-3, 6-3 score, and freshman Leah Gloster won in #5 singles 6-4, 6-1.

"This was another good win for us, and this is a great way to wrap up our year," said Head Coach Mandee Craft.  "We're looking forward to having most of our players back next year, along with some new faces."

Geneva had just one senior on this year's roster, Laura Lin Comollo, who wrapped up her strong career with a win against Carlow last week.
