PITTSBURGH, Pa. – It was another frustrating evening for the Geneva College women's soccer team, who for the second straight game generated several chances but were unable to dent the net, dropping a 1-0 decision again, this one on the road at La Roche on Tuesday evening. The loss drops the women's overall record to 1-2-1.
La Roche got on the board midway into the first half, but in disputed fashion. Gabriella Fazio appeared to dribble the ball over the endline before bringing the ball back into play, and then in even more frustrating fashion, her shot beat junior goalkeeper Jade Farnsworth, but freshman Noelle Beare appeared to clear the ball off the line before it crossed into the goal, but the assistant referee saw it otherwise and granted the Redhawks the goal, putting Geneva into a hole.
Geneva pressed in the second half to try to find the equalizer, but just as last week against Houghton, the goal never came, despite multiple chances. The La Roche goal proved to be the difference in the 1-0 defeat.
Geneva held advantages in every statistical category. The women outshot La Roche 11-7, including 6-4 in shots on goal. The Golden Tornadoes also held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
The women will try to find their offense on Saturday when they return home for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff against Marietta, on Reeves Field.
