Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men’s Tennis Opens Season with Sweep at Mount Aloysius

CRESSON, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team opened its season with a sweep at Mount Aloysius on Thursday afternoon.  Both teams only had five players available, so the final score was 7-0.  This is one of three matches the Golden Tornadoes have in the fall, with most of their season occurring in the spring.

There were no matches in #3 doubles or #6 singles since both squads only had five players.  Geneva took both of the doubles matches.  Senior Jadon Hooke teamed with sophomore Daniel Ray to win in #1 doubles, 8-3.  Junior David Clark and sophomore Owen Landis paired together to win #2 doubles, 8-1.

The men also swept through the five singles matches.  Hooke won 6-3, 6-3 in #1 singles, while Landis almost shutout his opponent in #2 singles 6-1, 6-0.  Ray defeated his opponent in #3 singles 6-0, 6-4, while Clark won in #4 singles 6-1, 6-4.  Freshman Thayne Bodenmiller finished off the sweep in #5 singles by shutting out his opponent 6-0, 6-0.

"We started off on a great note for this season," said Head Coach Mandee Craft.  "The guys came out strong in doubles and kept it rolling in singles play."

Geneva hosts its final two fall matches next month.  The men host Waynesburg on October 3 before closing out the fall with a home match against Pitt-Greensburg on October 10.
