NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Geneva College women's volleyball team could never get anything going at Westminster on Wednesday night and fell to the Titans 19-25, 20-25, 12-25. Geneva dropped to 6-6 on the season.
Westminster controlled the first set, jumping out to an early lead and holding it for most of the set. Geneva did manage to even the score at 5-5, but the Titans responded with a four-point run to take control of the set, eventually winning 25-19.
The Golden Tornadoes jumped ahead early in the second set, but they couldn't maintain things. A kill and an ace from junior
Kami Mummau, along with kills from junior
Megan Veon and freshman
Katie Seboe, gave Geneva an early 8-2 advantage. Westminster quickly battled back, though, pulling even at 11-11, and the Titans took their first lead moments later, 14-13. A couple minutes later, five straight Westminster points pushed the lead to 21-15, and the Titans took the set, 25-20.
The third set never got any better for the ladies. Westminster took an early 9-4 lead and Geneva could never get any momentum going, eventually falling, 25-12.
Veon led the offense with eight kills. Geneva was its own worst enemy at times. Westminster only held a 36-32 advantage in kills in the match, but the Golden Tornadoes made 25 attack errors, compared to just six for Westminster, and eight service errors, compared to just one for the Titans. As a result, Geneva hit just .050, while Westminster finished with a .261 hitting percentage.
The women will try to rebound on Saturday when they hosts Grove City at 1:00 p.m. The match is the last non-conference match of the season for Geneva before it starts conference play next week.
