CRESSON, Pa. – The Geneva College women's volleyball team earned a road sweep at Mount Aloysius on Wednesday night by a score of 25-21, 25-19, 25-20 to even up its record on the season at 2-2.
A kill from junior Kami Mummau got Geneva started in the first set, and the Golden Tornadoes quickly jumped out to a big lead, 11-3, after a kill from freshman Katie Seboe. The final five points of the opening run were scored off the serve of junior Zoe Pifer, who added an ace in the stretch. Mount Aloysius used a late run to pull within 20-17, but Mummau answered with a kill, followed by a Seboe ace, to gain momentum back, and Mummau finished off the set with another kill, 25-21.
Mummau again started the next set with a kill, followed by kills from Seboe and senior Savannah Byers. Seboe added another kill moments later as the Golden Tornadoes jumped ahead 7-1. The Mounties tried to stay in the set, pulling within 11-7, but two kills from senior Tess Neville were part of four straight Geneva points, giving the Golden Tornadoes a comfortable 15-7 advantage. Mummau and Neville finished off the set, 25-19, with back-to-back kills.
Mount Aloysius took its only lead of the match early in the third set. The Mounties still held an 11-9 edge before a kill from Mummau started a four-point Geneva run to take the Golden Tornadoes' first lead of the set, 13-11. After a Mountie point, another Mummau kill, followed by an ace from Mummau, helped Geneva extend its lead to 16-12. Mount Aloysius used a late run to pull within 22-20, but it was Mummau who again came up big to finish off the match. She added another kill, followed by a solo block, to get Geneva to match point, and senior Samantha Peachey finished off the match with a kill, 25-20.
