Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dominant Win for Women’s Basketball Against Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Geneva secured another double-digit victory against the Franciscan University Barons Wednesday, leading by as many as 31 points before taking the game 86-68. With the win, Geneva moves to 9-10 on the season, 8-6 in conference play. Franciscan remains near the bottom of the PAC standings, with their record now 4-15, 2-12 in the PAC.

The two teams started off the game neck-and-neck. Franciscan took a 4-0 lead early, and although it would prove to be their only lead of the game, the score remained tied for much of the first quarter. Cynthia Milroy scored six points in the frame, including two nice driving layups toward the end. Despite a poor shooting quarter otherwise, free throws kept Geneva in the game, as the women went 7-of-7 from the charity stripe and closed out the quarter tied with the Barons 19-19.

Things broke open for Geneva in the second quarter, as the Golden Tornadoes began to dominate the scoring. Three-pointers from Emily Bucheit and Taylor Milroy pushed Geneva's lead into double digits, and Bucheit eventually finished with nine points in the quarter to give Geneva a 43-24 lead as the halftime buzzer sounded.

Bucheit picked up right where she left off in the second half, opening the scoring for Geneva with another three-pointer. Then Mia San Nicolas took over, scoring eight points in a row for the women, highlighted by a couple of deep triples. Geneva shot 5-of-11 from behind the arc over the course of the quarter, and the Golden Tornadoes went into the final frame up 27 points, 70-43.

The Barons fought back in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't nearly enough to come back as San Nicolas continued to score, scoring seven of Geneva's 16 points in the final period, all of them coming in the last four minutes. Geneva collected the victory by a final score of 86-68.

San Nicolas led the way yet again for the Golden Tornadoes by scoring 22 points, 15 of which came in the second half. Bucheit followed her with 15 points and six rebounds, while Bailee Fletcher and Milroy each contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively. Mackenzie Barricklow also had a good game defensively, snatching seven steals and two blocks.

Geneva travels to Allegheny on Saturday, where they'll face off against the Gators in a game that could have important playoff ramifications.
