Softball Bats Quiet on Final Day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Geneva College softball team couldn't manage much offense on its final day in Florida on Monday morning, dropping games to Arcadia, 3-0, and St. Scholastica, 6-1, to wrap up its games over Spring Break.  The Golden Tornadoes will head home with a 5-7 overall record.

Sophomore Sophia Tvaroch got the start in the circle in game one of the day against Arcadia, and she was effective early.  She pitched three scoreless frames before an error on a rundown in the top of the fourth allowed Arcadia to score two unearned runs.  That would prove to be all the offense the Knights would need.

Geneva managed just three hits in the game and never got a runner past third base.  Arcadia added one more run in the sixth to wrap up the scoring, 3-0.

Tvaroch received the loss despite pitching all seven innings while giving up seven hits, three runs (one earned) and one walk, striking out six.

Sophomore McKenzie Rapp got the start in the circle in game two against St. Scholastica, and she pitched well too, but once again the Golden Tornado defense let the pitching down.

Rapp retired seven of the first eight batters she faced, but three errors in the bottom of the third inning allowed St. Scholastica to score four unearned runs.

Geneva finally got on the board for the day when sophomore Payton James singled home a run in the top of the fifth, but that was the only run the Golden Tornadoes managed.  The Saints added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to close out the scoring, 6-1.

Geneva managed just five hits in game two, with sophomore Lexi Zanic providing two of them.  Rapp received the loss with 5.0 innings pitched while giving up just one earned run.

The Golden Tornadoes will return home later today for the start of classes on Tuesday.  Geneva will then head to New York this weekend for two doubleheaders.  The Golden Tornadoes will face Houghton on Friday and then travel to Hilbert on Saturday for two more games.
