WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Two days after sweeping Thiel to open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play, the Geneva men's tennis team did it again at Waynesburg on Wednesday, sweeping the Yellow Jackets 9-0 to stay perfect on the season. Geneva improved to 5-0 overall, 2-0 in the PAC.
Geneva easily won its three doubles matches, giving up just two points across the three flights. Senior Jadon Hooke and sophomore Braiden Smalley won in No. 1 doubles, junior David Clark and sophomore Owen Landis took No. 2 doubles, and senior Nick Heidengren and freshman Thayne Bodenmiller won in the third flight.
Singles action went the same as doubles did. Smalley won in the first flight 6-1, 6-2. Hooke swept his opponent in No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0. Clark won 6-2, 6-2 in No. 3 singles, while Landis swept his opponent in No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0. Senior Stone Seip won 6-1, 6-0 in No. 5 singles, while Heidengren finished off the match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in No. 6 singles.
"We're glad to be able to pick up another good win," said Head Coach Mandee Craft, "as we head into the meat of our season next week."
Geneva does have a very busy and challenging schedule next week, starting with a road match at Grove City on Tuesday. The Golden Tornadoes then face reigning PAC Champion Allegheny on Thursday at home, before finishing up the week with a match at Penn State Behrend on Friday.
