Tough Fourth Inning Costs Baseball against Valley Forge

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Geneva College baseball team had one bad inning in its game with Valley Forge on Friday morning, and that inning cost the Golden Tornadoes the game in a 10-3 loss to the Patriots.  Geneva dropped to 2-3 with the loss.

Junior Derek Sears got the start on the mound, and he cruised through the first three innings without allowing a hit.  Unfortunately, the Geneva hitters couldn't find much offense against Valley Forge starter Brandon Dalmado.

The fourth inning was a different story.  The first 11 batters reached base on a combination of singles, walks, and errors, and by the time the inning finished, Valley Forge had scored eight times, five of which were unearned due to three Geneva errors.

Geneva got on the board in the top of the sixth.  Sophomore Kirk Bearjar drove in senior David Toruno, who had doubled earlier in the inning.  Three batters later, senior Tim Hermansen doubled to bring home two more runs.

That was all the offense the Golden Tornadoes could put together, though, and Valley Forge wrapped up the scoring with two more runs in the 10-3 Patriot victory.

Valley Forge outhit Geneva just 7-6, but six Geneva errors and six walks issued by Golden Tornado pitchers aided the Patriot offense.  Sophomore Aaron Babu collected two of Geneva's hits.

The baseball team will return to action tomorrow with a doubleheader against Clarks Summit beginning at 6:00 p.m.
