WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Geneva College women's tennis team was able to avoid the rain drops down at Waynesburg on Wednesday afternoon, and the Golden Tornadoes were rewarded with a sweep of the Yellow Jackets, 9-0. The win, Geneva's fourth straight, improves its record to 7-8 as its season nears an end.
Geneva conceded just one point across the three doubles matches. Junior Delaney Winterhalter and sophomore Lauren Estes swept their opponents, 8-0, in No. 1 doubles, and sophomore Jenna Allison and freshman Emma Kline swept their opponents in No. 3 doubles, 8-0. In No. 2 doubles, sophomore CeJaelyn Perednia and freshman Rachel Hodsden easily won 8-1.
The women cruised through the singles portion of the match as well. Estes won 6-3, 6-0 in No. 1 singles, while Winterhalter won 6-0, 6-2 in No. 2 singles. Hodsden won 6-2, 6-0 in No. 3 singles, and Perednia won 6-2, 6-3 in No. 4 singles. Freshman Caroline Reed won No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-0, while sophomore Sarah Kelly completed the sweep in No. 6 singles 7-5, 6-3.
"We felt very fortunate to get this match in with the rain coming," said Head Coach Mandee Craft, "but we are very glad we got to play today! It was a fun match, and we got a chance to get some new players in the lineup too."
The women have more match left on the schedule this year, a road trip to Mount Aloysius next Thursday, April 18.
