BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team was narrowly edged out on Saturday by W&J, 5-4, on Geneva's Senior Day celebration. Geneva dropped to 6-4 overall, 3-3 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).
Senior Jadon Hooke and sophomore Braiden Smalley got the Golden Tornadoes off to a good start by winning No. 1 doubles, 8-4, but that was the only doubles match the men could win. Senior Nick Heidengren and freshman Thayne Bodenmiller lost a tiebreak in No. 3 doubles, 8-7, which ended up proving to be the key match of the day between these two evenly matched squads.
Smalley also won his match in No. 1 singles by a score of 7-6(0), 6-3. Sophomore Owen Landis won in No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-3, and senior Stone Seip won in No. 5 singles 7-6(3), 6-4. Unfortunately, that left the men one point short of the win.
"This was a tough loss for sure, as all 5-4 losses are," said Head Coach Mandee Craft. "We fought through some difficult wind, but they just edged us out today."
Geneva wraps up the regular season next week with road matches at Grove City and Saint Vincent.
