Men’s Tennis Finishes Regular Season with Big Win at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis wrapped up the regular season on Saturday, capturing a big win at Saint Vincent, 5-4.  Geneva improved to 7-5 overall, 4-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).  The PAC playoffs start next Tuesday.

In doubles play, senior Jadon Hooke and sophomore Braiden Smalley breezed through No. 1 doubles, 8-0.  Saint Vincent won No. 2 doubles, and then senior Nick Heidengren and freshman Thayne Bodenmiller came up with a key win in No. 3 doubles, winning 8-7, 10-8 in the tiebreaker.

In singles play, Smalley easily won again in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2.  Hooke picked up a win in No. 2 singles 6-4, 7-6(4).  Junior David Clark and sophomore Owen Landis dropped their singles matches in third-set tiebreakers, playing well despite the losses.  Heidengren then came through for the deciding point, winning 6-1, 6-2 in No. 6 singles.

"This was a huge win for us, especially heading into playoffs where we will face them next week," said Head Coach Mandee Craft.  "This was definitely one of our best matches of the season."

Geneva tied for fifth in the regular season PAC standings with W&J, but because the Presidents defeated Geneva, the Golden Tornadoes will get the six seed and head back to Saint Vincent, the No. 3 seed, on Tuesday in the PAC Quarterfinals.
