Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Battles to Scoreless Draw Against Hiram

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's soccer team battled for 90 minutes against a physical and compact Hiram squad on Saturday night on Reeves Field, and despite a number of good chances for the Golden Tornadoes, both teams were unable to find the back of the net and eventually saw the game out to a scoreless draw.  Geneva remains undefeated on the season with a 4-0-1 record.

Hiram came into the evening looking for its first win of the season.  The Terriers had a noticeable shot advantage in all three of their prior games, but each ended in defeat.  They didn't back down, though, against a talented Golden Tornado squad which came into the evening with four wins in four tries.

Junior Gabe Singh almost found the net in the sixth minute, forcing Hiram's keeper Tyler Jurgensen to make a diving stop to push Singh's shot just wide of the net.

Neither team was able to create many great chances in the first half, though.  Senior Caleb Chambers had a good look at the net in the 36th minute with the Jurgensen out of position of his net, but his shot sailed wide right, and the two teams went into the break with Geneva holding a slim 5-4 edge in shots, though none of Hiram's shot were on frame.

Geneva really picked up the intensity in the second half and created the better chances, but the Golden Tornadoes couldn't find the back of the net.  Hiram appeared to break through in the 68th minute against the run of play, but the goal was negated due to an offsides violation.

Geneva dominated the final 20 minutes of the game after Hiram's close call, firing a number of shots at the net, with freshman Luke Main's drive in the 79th minute hitting the crossbar.  However, despite outshooting the Terriers 10-2 in the final half, the Golden Tornadoes ultimately settled for the 0-0 draw.

Geneva finished the game with a 15-6 edge in shots, including a 4-0 advantage in shots on goal as senior goalkeeper Hadyn Catalon wasn't forced to make a save in picking up his second shutout of the season.  Main led the team with four shots, including two on goal.  The Golden Tornadoes also held a big advantage in corner kicks, 8-0.

The men will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday when they host Heidelberg at 7:00 p.m. on Reeves Field.
