Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men’s Tennis Edged by Westminster in Season Opener

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team opened its season on Thursday evening with a home match against Westminster, and the Titans edged out the Golden Tornadoes 4-3.  The match doesn't count towards the conference standings as most of the men's tennis season occurs in the spring semester.

The men were short-handed entering the match, playing without their top player in junior Braiden Smalley, who wasn't able to make the match.  Despite that, the men still managed to take two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.  Senior David Clark and junior Owen Landis won in No. 1 doubles 6-4, while sophomore Thayne Bodenmiller and freshman Ben Busler won by the same 6-4 score in No. 2 doubles.

Geneva fell just short in the singles matches, though.  Busler won his match in No. 2 singles 7-6, 6-0, while Bodenmiller won in No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-4.  The men narrowly missed out on the point they needed to clinch the match in No. 1 singles were Clark fell in three sets 6-7, 6-2, 3-10.

The men play four times in the fall semester as they prepare for their spring season.  Next up for Geneva is at Mount Aloysius next Wednesday, starting at 3:00 p.m.
