#11 Grove City Too Much for Geneva in Season-Opener

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) schedule makers didn't do Geneva College's football team any favors when they scheduled the Golden Tornadoes to open the season at #11 Grove City, which comes into the year with as much national notoriety as any PAC school has in several years.  The Wolverines proved as good as advertised as they powered their way to a 41-0 victory over the Golden Tornadoes.

Things didn't start out on a great note when projected starting quarterback, sophomore transfer Caleb Romano, was ruled out prior to the game with a minor injury.  His absence, along with the fact Grove City boasts one of the top defenses in the country, spelled bad news for the Golden Tornadoes.

Grove City got on the board on its second drive of the game on a 74-yard touchdown run from Ian Demeri.  The Wolverines broke the game open with three scores in the second quarter to take a 28-0 lead into the break.

The second half didn't get any better for Geneva, as Grove City finished off the scoring with touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters to wrap up the 41-0 victory.

The Geneva offense managed just 62 yards on 42 plays, with the Wolverine defense holding the Golden Tornadoes to just 34 yards rushing out of their triple-option attack.  Grove City finished the day with 594 yards of total offense.  Junior linebacker Reed Gordon was one highlight for Geneva after he led the defense with a career-high 14 stops.

The schedule doesn't get any easier for the Golden Tornadoes, who head to Carnegie Mellon for a game next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.  The Tartans are ranked #22 in the nation and defeated Thiel 58-0 in their season opener today.
