Women’s Volleyball Closes Out Season Versus Grove City

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – After dropping the first two sets to Grove City College on Saturday night, Geneva made a valiant effort in the third but wound up losing to the Wolverines as the visitors completed the sweep (16-25, 14-25, 20-25). The loss brings the 2025 season to a close for the women, who showed promise at times but never really found their groove. They finish the year at 5-24 overall, 2-14 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play, while Grove City ends the regular season at 17-8, 9-7 in the PAC.

An early kill by junior Daphne Alexander knotted the score at 4-4 in the first set, but the Wolverines took off on a 10-4 run at that point to seize control. Geneva could not pull even, and the visitors went on the take the set 25-16. It was a similar story in set two when, tied at seven, Grove City used a 10-2 run to go way in front, eventually winning the frame 25-14.

The Golden Tornadoes controlled the majority of the third set, gaining a 15-12 edge on two kills and a service ace by senior Emily Nelson. The Wolverines hung around though, keeping the difference within three points, and struck toward the end of the set. They took the final eight points of the match to come from behind and complete the sweep, winning the set 25-20.

In the final match of her collegiate career, Nelson finished with a team-high nine kills, with six coming in the third and final set. Alexander was right behind her with eight kills of her own, and freshman Ruthie Land ended with a team-high 16 assists. Senior Heather Seubert led the team defensively with 12 digs, also playing in the final match of her career.

Nelson and Seubert will be greatly missed next year, as will fellow seniors Abigail Glumac and Evelyn Stroup. The GTs will look to revamp over the offseason and come back stronger next year.
