Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women Wrap up Play at Roanoke Holiday Tournament

SALEM, Va. – The Geneva College women's basketball team finished up play on Tuesday at the Roanoke Holiday Classic with a 79-54 loss to Albright.

Geneva struggled out of the gate, unable to find much success against the full court defensive pressure of Albright.  The women struggled with turnovers and fouls in the first quarter, falling behind 25-16 at the first break.  Geneva did get a pair of three-pointers from senior Abby Shoaff in the first ten minutes.

The offensive struggles continued into the second quarter, with Albright extending its lead to 32-16 as Geneva went scoreless until two free throws from junior Aizlyn Thompson four minutes into the period.  The deficit continued to grow, though, and the women trailed 50-26 when the halftime buzzer hit.

Geneva was unable to make a run in the second half, eventually falling 79-54.

Senior Emily Garvin led the team offensively again, scoring 13 points despite battling foul trouble all game.  She was named to the All-Tournament Team.  Thompson added ten points.  As a team, Geneva made just 17-of-67 (25.4%) shots from the floor, 7-of-36 (19.4%) from three-point range.

Geneva will make the long trip back on Tuesday night and prepare for a game at Case Western Reserve on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
